King of Draws – Man United Held by Everton

In recent weeks, there has been a certain air of discontent around Old Trafford when fans came out to support their team and see results end in a draw. The Red Devils have drawn four of their last five home matches in the league and many were hoping it would change against a bruised Everton side who were still reeling from their derby loss to Liverpool. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return from suspension was a huge boost for the Manchester side that really needed a win to move closer to a Champions League spot.

United started the game in dominant fashion as usual but Ibrahimovic and Jesse Lingard fluffed their chances inside the first fifteen minutes. Against the run of play, Everton pushed forward to launch an attack and Kevin Mirallas forced a save from David de Gea in goal for Man United. The Toffees went ahead from the resultant corner as Phil Jagielka scored from close range.

The atmosphere at Old Trafford was uneasy at the start of the second half as it looked like one of those games that Man United get to dominate but wouldn’t win. A glimmer of hope appeared for the home side when Ibrahimovic found the back of the net in the 70th minute but was correctly flagged offside. It looked like Everton would get the three points on the night, but Ibrahimovic snatched a point for Man United from the penalty spot in the 94th minute after Ashey Williams handled the ball in the penalty box.

The draw leaves Man United fifth position on the table with 54 points while Everton remain seventh on the log with 51 points.

Will draws take MAN UTD. To Champions League next season?
