WOMAN CHARGED FOR LOCKING HOUSE GIRL IN TOILET FOR 20 DAYS

The Police in Lagos have charged a housewife before for an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly locking her house girl in a toilet for 20 days.
The accused Mrs. Oyinyen Chuks, who was said to have embarked on the action in a bid to punish the 14 year old girl pleaded not guilty to the allegation leveled against her.
The Chief Magistrate, Davies Abegunde, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties in like the sum.
She ordered the accused to pay N200, 000 into the Court Registrar‘s account as part of the bail conditions.
The 34 yr old accused who used to be a trader resides at 19, Ojo St.in Shasha area of Lagos is facing a four-count charge including assault.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Raphael Donny, informed the court that the offence was committed between May 2 and May 22 in her residence.
He said that the accused claimed that the housemaid stole her money and beat her mercilessly. “The accused locked the girl inside the toilet, fed her once and didn’t allow her to take a bath or change her clothes for those weeks in bondage’’
“It was one of the neighbours who could not bear the torment anymore that informed the police”.
The prosecutor further explained that following the report, the police visited the house and found the girl in the condition.
The case has been adjourned till June 21 for mention.
