No fewer than two persons that included a Togolese were last night matcheted to death while more than twenty others sustained varying degrees of injuries at Awanotu junction in Oworonshoki area of Lagos.
The perpetrators of the dastard act were said to be the cultists prowling the oworonshoki community killing, maiming and robbing innocent residents.
The cultists stormed the street some minutes past ten last night where some people were buying and eating noodles and pounced on the Togolese who was said to have visited the area to see his brother.
The hoodlums armed with guns, machetes, axes and other dangerous weapons attacked the Togolese who was said to be about 20 yrs plus by cutting his head as if it was a cow’s head that was butchered and also cut one of his hands.
They in the process shot sporadically into the crowd during which another person was killed while many others suffered axe cuts and bullet wounds.
Residents said that the criminals who are well known in the area had their hide outs in the ferry area from where they usually reinforce to carry out attacks on any person they intend to kill.
A resident said that no fewer than five persons had been killed by the cultists between last month and early this month and there were plans to intensify reprisal attacks because the rival cult group had started counting the number of casualties suffered so far.
‘’But the Togolese boy that was killed is not a member of any cult group why do they kill him’’
Miss Mope another resident lamented that the boy just completed his education and came to see his brother for work but the brother was not around and he decided to buy noodles to eat that was how he meet his untimely death.
It was after the hoodlums had carried out their evil machination that the police now came and there was an exchange of fire between the police and the cultist because they too carry guns
The residents therefore called on the state government to come and clear all the shanties on the lagoon particularly around that Ferry area because that is where the hoodlums use to hide and plan their atrocities.
The residents also want the traditional ruler in Oworonshoki to be warned because his son called Kabiru was said to be the head of another cult group terrorizing the area.
You will remember that Kabiru was the one that led other cultists last year shooting into the crowd with the backing of some policemen from Oworonshoki station when a woman was the DPO.
The residents said that when the incident of last year happened that the commander RRS Mr. Tunji Disu came they informed him of what the son of the monarch did but were surprised that the boy was not arrested despite the fact that his group killed one person at Land K area.
