Spain were the better of the two sides to start and Silva had a trio of chances to open the scoring inside the first 10 minutes, but each time was denied by either Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina or defender Santiago Arias.

It was until the 22nd minute that David Silva gave Spain a lead ahead in the game, but the South American visitors would equalise through Edwin Cardona, who took advantage of a Spain miscue in the 40th minute. Radamel Falcao notched a go-ahead goal for Colombia in the 55th minute, but Morata’s 87th minute header would rescue the result for La Roja.

But the visitors were keen to find a goal ahead the Spanish host and Falcao would deliver it with a thumping header to give the Cafeteros their first lead of the night, 2-1. James Rodriqguez’s swung in a perfect corner kick from the right and Falcao beat Azpilicueta to the ball, leaving Reina no chance.

Spain did enjoy some bright moments and several good looks going forward, But they were largely tamed by the Colombian defence in the second-half until Morata came to the rescue with a  late equalizer.

In defence, Spain boss Julen Lopetegui will be left worried by his team’s defensive performance, as a lack of communication led to both Colombia goals.
